Privacy Policy

Account information. Your email address and the display name you choose when you create an account.

Learning data. Your lesson progress, XP, streaks, review and vocabulary state, achievements, and the preferences you set (such as script, reminders, and daily goal). This is what lets the app pick up where you left off.

Subscription information. Whether you are on the Free or Plus plan, your subscription status, and billing identifiers from our payment provider. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Tutoring and support. Booking details if you book a session, and the messages you send through support tickets, the contact form, or the app waitlist.

Technical and usage data. Device and browser information, and in-app usage events (for example, lessons started or completed) that help us understand what works and what needs fixing.

Cookies and similar tools. We use cookies that are essential for signing in and keeping the app working. We also run the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, which helps us measure whether our advertising leads to signups. We count visits to our public pages with our own anonymous statistics (page, country, and referring site; no IP addresses are stored and nothing is shared with third parties for this). You can control cookies in your browser settings.

Speaking practice uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. On Chrome that service is provided by Google, and on Safari by Apple, so your audio is transcribed by your browser provider under their privacy policies. Start Serbian does not record, receive, or store your audio. We only save the result of a practice session (for example, how many phrases you completed) as learning data.

We use your information to run the service and your account, save and personalize your learning, process subscriptions and bookings, answer support requests, send service messages (for example, account and billing notices and support replies), show in-app notifications you have enabled, and understand and improve the product. We do not sell your personal information.

We share information only with the providers that run parts of the service: Supabase (database and hosting), Stripe (payments), Resend (email delivery), Vercel (website hosting), and Meta (advertising measurement through the Pixel). Each provider processes data under its own terms and privacy policy. We may also disclose information when required by law.

We keep your information while your account exists. If you delete your account from your profile settings, we delete your learning data, cancel any active subscription, and remove your account. Some records, such as payment records held by Stripe, are kept where the law requires it.

You can review and update your account information and notification preferences in your profile, and delete your account there at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or receive a copy of your personal information. Contact us and we will help.

We protect data in transit with encryption and use access controls and row-level security in our database so accounts can only reach their own information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to fix problems quickly when we find them.

Start Serbian is designed for adult and teen learners. It is not directed at children under 13.

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update this page and the date at the top. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
