Meet your tutor

Meet Soko.
Your eagle-eyed coach.

Soko guides every lesson: explaining the why behind each answer, cheering your streaks, and calling back the words you're about to forget. Learning Serbian feels less like studying. More like a friend who happens to be an eagle.

Real progress,
in their own words.

From complete beginners to heritage speakers reconnecting, here is what learning Serbian with us actually feels like.

Actually makes me want to keep studying
“I've tried a few Serbian learning apps, but this app actually makes me want to keep studying. The lessons are simple, clear, and don't feel overwhelming.”

Mia R.

Finally makes sense
“Finally an app that teaches Serbian in a way that actually makes sense. I've been learning for a few weeks and I can already recognize so much more when my boyfriend's family speaks Serbian.”

Sophie M.

My favourite part
“The vocabulary practice is probably my favourite part. I like that I can go back and review words instead of constantly forgetting what I learned.”

Sara C.

Approachable from lesson one
“I'm completely new to Serbian and was honestly intimidated at first. StartSerbian made the first few lessons really approachable and easy to follow.”

Emily T.

Part of my morning routine
“I've been using StartSerbian almost every day and it's become part of my morning routine. The lessons are short enough that I never feel like I have to sit down for an hour just to make progress.”

Alex P.

Designed for speaking, not memorizing
“What I like most is that it actually feels designed for people who want to speak Serbian, not just memorize random vocabulary. I'm finally starting to put sentences together.”

Mark D.

Everything organized in one place
“Super easy to use and the explanations are actually helpful. I've tried learning Serbian from YouTube before, but having everything organized in one place makes a huge difference.”

Laura S.

Much more confident already
“I started learning Serbian because my partner is Serbian and I wanted to be able to communicate with her family. I'm still a beginner, but I already feel much more confident than I did when I started.”

Chris B.

Words actually stick
“The review system is really helpful. I usually forget new words after a few days, but being able to come back and practice them makes them stick.”

Nina K.

Grammar feels manageable
“I wasn't sure how difficult Serbian would be to learn, especially with the grammar and different endings. StartSerbian breaks everything down into manageable lessons, which makes it feel much less scary.”

James W.

Curriculum

A path that actually goes somewhere.

Ten units take you from zero to B1: greetings, daily life, food, people, tenses, and the famous Serbian cases, in real situations, not grammar drills.

Questions,
answered.

Everything else you're wondering before your first lesson.

Honestly? Parts of it are. Seven grammatical cases, two alphabets, and sounds like ć that English doesn't have. But Serbian is also beautifully phonetic: words are pronounced exactly as they're written, and Start Serbian is built around the hard parts: the Padeži Lab tames the cases, Ćirilica Quest teaches both scripts, and the pronunciation lab trains your ear on the tricky sounds.

Both: Serbians use both every day. Cyrillic is official and traditional; Latin dominates online and in texting. Start Serbian lets you flip the entire app between scripts with one tap, so you naturally pick up both as you learn.

Ten to fifteen minutes is the sweet spot. Lessons are bite-size, and the Daily Review resurfaces exactly the words you're about to forget. That's the highest-leverage five minutes in language learning.

The course takes you from zero to B1 across ten units: greetings, daily life, food, people, past and future tenses, cases in real situations, and more. You will finish able to hold real conversations about everyday topics.

Yes, it's in development and coming soon. Your account, XP, streak, and progress sync between the web app and iOS automatically, so anything you learn here carries over.

The core course is free during early access: lessons, reviews, and culture content. One-on-one tutoring with Olivera is a separate paid option for learners who want to accelerate with a native speaker.
